More Than Just Books: Upcoming Movie Releases for July 2026

Hello world! It’s Adriana back again with some upcoming movie releases. Hopefully you could get out (or settle in) for a nice movie watch since I have last posted. I managed to make it out to see Supergirl (2026) out at an IMAX theater and even received a special edition of the first comic in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series with my ticket. I really enjoyed my viewing- although it is pretty far from a stereotypical “Super Hero Movie”. Personally, I don’t think that is a fault, but I can understand why some wouldn’t like it as much. It is nice to think of a movie as being made just for you sometimes. As a self-proclaimed cinephile myself, I am always on the lookout for my next watch. Thank goodness there are plenty of films to look forward to! Check out my list below to see what releases will be in my radar in the next couple of weeks.

Hadestown (July 24)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “The live theater capture of the hit musical Hadestown, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, featuring the five original principals of the Broadway company. The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale. Following two intertwining love stories -- that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone -- Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.”

As someone who likes live theater, but is far from a true thespian, I am very excited for this theatrical release. This release is a live-recording of a 2025 performance of a modern retelling of the Greek tragedy Orpheus and Eurydice. For those not in the know, this is not a happy story, it is full of drama and intensity- with an unhappy ending. I have been interested in this project for a number of years, but I couldn’t justify the ticket cost to travel or watch it live. This theatrical release feels perfect for anyone who is in this same boat as me. The recording will feature five of the principal cast members from the original Broadway production with Brett Sullivan, the original director. There is a VERY limited theatrical run of this production, only five days, so if you want to get out and see this musical on the big screen, don’t wait!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn't remember him -- and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him -- sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves -- a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn't forgotten them.”

I know, I know- ANOTHER SUPERHERO MOVIE?! Yes. I’m sorry, we love them. Peter Parker is back! And things have never been worse for this web-slinger. Coming back from Spider-Man: No Way Home, we have Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Zendaya as “MJ”, and others returning along with a new, unnamed character who will be played by Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink. This 38th addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who you may know from his Marvel debut, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. I’m excited to see how this movie plays into the larger story of the Marvel Universe, and I’m certain it will make a great stand-alone movie like other Spider-Man films before it.

Ice Cream Man (August 7)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “Ice Cream Man follows an idyllic summer town descending into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results.”

This one is for the horror fans out there. Are you in the market for a Slasher? Like, capital S- Slasher. A gross-out hack and slash? That is what you are going to get here. This is a relatively unknown property from director Eli Raphael Roth. It is loosely based off of a dark comedy horror comic book series of the same name. This movie will feature Ari Millen as the Ice Cream Man, soon-to-be horror icon. You may recognize him from other horror/sci-fi projects, like “Orphan Black”. Just from the trailer, you can tell this movie will be a blood-bath. Will Ice Cream Man earn a title among stars like Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers? Or will he fall to the wayside… only to be forgotten? You’ll have to watch and find out!

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie (August 14)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “After their ship gets caught in a mysterious storm, the PAW Patrol pups crash land on an uncharted tropical island filled with dinosaurs. They meet Rex, a pup who has been stranded on the island for years and has become an expert in all things dino-related. When the PAW Patrol's archrival, Mayor Humdinger, begins recklessly mining in hopes of exploiting the island for its natural resources, he inadvertently causes a huge, dormant volcano to erupt. The PAW Patrol pups are thrown into a series of high-stakes, dino-sized rescues bigger than anything they've done before, as they must stop Humdinger before everything on the island goes extinct.”

Don’t worry families, the PAW Patrol pups are back on another adventure! This feature is a direct sequel to the 2023 movie, PAW Patrol: the Mighty Movie. This movie will feature Marshall, voiced by Carter Young, the dalmatian as he and the rest of the pups help Rex, voiced by Hayden Chemberlen, save his island and the things he cares about the most. This movie will also have a slew of guest voice actors, like Terry Crews, Jameela Jamil, Paris Hilton, Bill Nye, and Snoop Dogg! (Go figure) Directing this PAW Patrol adventure will be Callan Stuart Brunker, who worked as director for the two previous PAW Patrol movies, along with many other children’s comedies under his belt. If you are looking for a fun family movie, this one will surely treat you right!

With all of these great movies coming out soon, and more, what will you be watching this month? Librarians love talking about movies and televisions; let us know what you've been looking forward to or enjoying!
