More Than Just Books: Upcoming Movie Releases for September 2026

Hello Readers, Adriana back again! I'm here again this month to let you know about some movies that will be releasing soon. There were lots of great movies that released last month, but I was only able to make it out for one movie. It was a good one though! Coyote vs. Acme was a hit! A sneaky release- this one was shelved by Warner Brothers a number of years ago (for a tax credit) and was snatched up by Ketchup Entertainment for a theatrical release. It has done unexpectedly well in its first week's box office breaking past other same-day releases. Personally, I thought it was hilarious; maybe the best performance I have seen from John Cena. I thought the lead actor, Will Forte, did a great job playing a loser lawyer in over his head. If the concept of a satirical cartoon court room drama appeals to you (like it does to me) this is one you HAVE to check out. Besides Looney Tunes, there are more great movies coming out soon. Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom (September 18)

When Shaun turns MAD SCIENTIST to fix the problem, things rapidly spiral out of control... With The Farmer missing and a wild beast roaming the woods of Mossingham, all the ingredients are in place for a monstrously fun family adventure.”

MAKE SOME NOISE IF YOU ARE A FAN OF BRITTISH STOP-MOTION ANIMATION!! You know classics, Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit, and now a movie based off of the spin-off series Shaun the Sheep! I am a big fan of the production company behind this movie, Aardman- who is known for their family friendly comedies. This one will continue after the story from A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, a straight to streaming Netflix movie (which is a hoot if you haven't had a chance to watch it) with the same writers credited. If the formula works, why change it? Personally, this is a must-watch in theaters for me. I am so glad to see a theatrical release for a movie with such a unique production. Stop-motion animation holds a special place in my heart. I'm planning a double-feature this month and this will be part 1.

Resident Evil (September 18)

In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”

Do you like a horror thriller that makes you jump at every bump in the night? You want to leave a movie with the feeling of someone riiiight behind you? One of those movies that makes you check your locks? I'm confident this movie will be up your alley. From writer/director Zach Cregger comes a completely stand-alone story from the world of Resident Evil. Unfamiliar? Resident Evil is a popular horror game franchise reaching back to the PLAYSTATION 1 era; with new and modern adaptions coming out currently. This isn't Resident Evil's first expedition into film, with a movie series of the same name from the 2000's and a 2019 movie Welcome to Raccoon City; this will however be a completely original story with a new cast of characters and only mentions of the infamous Raccoon City as this story will run congruently with the events of the game Resident Evil 2. The lead actor, Austin Abrams, is returning from working on Weapons, the previous Zach Cregger movie that released last year. With a small cast of well-seasoned character actors like Paul Walter Hauser and Zach Cherry to add into the mix, I am incredibly excited for this project. If you couldn't guess, this will cap off my double feature- I'm getting tickets as soon as I can.

Verity (October 2)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “Adapted from Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity's chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity's husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.”

This is one for our book adaption fans. You may have heard of (or contributed to) the Colleen Hoover wave over the past couple of years. She is well known for writing romantic dramas, but the book that this movie is based off of is a stand out. Nestled deep in the thriller genre, this book is a page turner with nothing but rave reviews. Join Lowen Ashleigh, played by Dakota Johnson, as she unravels the mystery of her new employer and house mates. This is sure to be another stand-out performance from Anne Hathaway as she's been in hit after hit this year. Book clubbers, grab your friends and head out to this one!

Sense and Sensibility (October 16)

From Rotten Tomatoes: “From Focus Features and Working Title comes an irresistible new take on Jane Austen's iconic Sense and Sensibility: a charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles.”

We have here a second book adaptation releasing this upcoming month. This one being a Jane Austen classic. After those two rather intense thrillers, may you're in the mood for a historical romantic drama? This release will feature up and coming director Georgia Oakley, who's last project was Blue Jean- which was written and directed by her. She has been given lead over some of England's best. You'll see featured in this film Daisy Edgar-Jones, known for her lead role in the Hulu series Normal People, and also Esmé Creed-Miles. If you're looking to refresh your memory on a high school mandatory read (or avoid your current mandatory read) come out and check this film out!
