Hey everyone! It is your library pal, Adriana, here to talk about some upcoming media releases BEYOND books! (Weird coming from a librarian, I know.) Libraries are about so much more than books; you can find most hit television series, movies and CDs available to order in to your library. Here are some upcoming movie releases to look out for!

Supergirl (June 26)
From Rotten Tomatoes: “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
Personally, I have been eagerly awaiting this release since I watched Superman (2025). I’ve read the comic this movie is based on, SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW by Tom King in anticipation. This iteration of Supergirl is played by Milly Alcock, known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s fantasy series House of the Dragon. Directing this movie will be Australian-American director Craig Gillespie, who is known for directing one of my personal favorite movies, I, Tonya. So while we will have a switch in directors from Superman (2025), I am confident this project will be just as interesting.

Minions & Monsters (July 1)
From Rotten Tomatoes: “This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.”
You know ‘em, you love ‘em, and the people need more of ‘em! Despicable Me’s iconic Minions are back on another wacky adventure. There are, of course, the minions you have come to expect, but also a loaded cast of guest voice actors in this movie. You’ll hear comedians like Trey Parker and Bobby Moynihan lending their talents, along with stars Jesse Eisenberg and Jeff Bridges! There is something here for everyone! This installment of the Despicable Me franchise will continue to be directed by Pierre-Louis Padang Coffin, who co-directed the previous films. (You’ll also recognize him the infamous voice-actor for the beloved minions!) Get your overalls and bananas ready for this one!

Moana (July 10)
From Rotten Tomatoes: “In Disney's live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar-nominated animated adventure, Moana answers the Ocean's call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”
Starring Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson is reprising his role as Maui. The third installment in the Moana series, this first live-action adaption is directed by Thomas Kail; known for his directing work on the Off-Broadway (and then later) Broadway production of Hamilton. With this much talent tied to the production, I'm sure it will be a knock-out this summer.

Evil Dead Burn (July 10)
From Rotten Tomatoes: “EVIL DEAD BURN unleashes the franchise's most savage and terrifying ride to date, blazing onto big screens with an all-new chapter of carnage and demonic mayhem. After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites--turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell--she comes to discover that the vows she took in life live on... even in death.”
Are you not in the market for a family movie? This one might be more your style. We’re reentering the Evil Dead horror series with Souheila Yacoub playing Alice, our main character. This installment of the franchise is both written and directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček. Without many films under his belt and a relatively unknown lead actress, I'm excited to see the direction this film takes in such an iconic horror series.
With all of these great movies coming out soon, and more, what will you be watching this month? Librarians love talking about movies and televisions; let us know what you've been looking forward to or enjoying!
