Looking for some book inspiration? Here are some suggested reads for May!

These books have been on the New York Times Bestseller List and at the top of the Millstadt Library's most circulated list. At the end of these lists, Nichole picks a book or two that she personally recommends.

We just reviewed The Ox-Bow Incident by Walter Clark and are reading First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison for our next Senior Center Book Club meeting on Monday, June 15 at 11 a.m.

Without further ado, here are this month's picks!

The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout

The Last Mandarin by Louise Penny

NICHOLE'S RECOMMENDATION

With the new TV Series out on Apple TV starring Elle Fanning, I thought before giving the show a try, I might read the book. And it was a nice read. If you've read Jeanette McCurdy's Half His Age, you'll find these books to be in the same vein. The difference being that you actually like Margo.

It's a very easy read that you can breeze through in a weekend, like I did. There's a lot of starts for the story that never were followed through, but it has good humor, likeable characters, and a good ending.

Margo's Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe

As the child of a Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, Margo Millet's always known she’d have to make it on her own. So she enrolls at her local junior college, even though she can’t imagine how she’ll ever make a living. She’s still figuring things out and never planned to have an affair with her English professor—and while the affair is brief, it isn’t brief enough to keep her from getting pregnant. Despite everyone’s advice, she decides to keep the baby, mostly out of naiveté and a yearning for something bigger.

Now, at twenty, Margo is alone with an infant, unemployed, and on the verge of eviction. She needs a cash infusion—fast. When her estranged father, Jinx, shows up on her doorstep and asks to move in with her, she agrees in exchange for help with childcare. Then Margo begins to form a plan: she’ll start an OnlyFans as an experiment, and soon finds herself adapting some of Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling.
