The Millstadt Library District Board learned its application with the state of Illinois for a construction act grant resulted in a phenomenal grant of more than $1.2 million.
However, that State of Illinois Public Library Construction Act Grant is contingent on being able to secure the local share of the estimated cost – in this case nearly $2.6 million – by June 30, 2022.
The library is grateful for this wonderful opportunity and financial help, however, we also realize we are going to need the help and support from our local community and local businesses. Everyone working together to help create a much-needed community resource can help us achieve this goal to create a new library everyone can use with pride.
So how does a new library for Millstadt help our local children, adults and the entire community? Whoever walks through the doors of the Millstadt Library has access to the many great resources it has to offer. If you have a library card that is part of the Illinois Heartland Library System (think of Waterloo, Columbia, Belleville and more) then your library card can be used at Millstadt as well. A Millstadt library card also allows you to order books and other materials from libraries throughout the state.
Don’t have a library card? Then use the current and new library to gain access to free programs, computers, the Internet and helpful librarians.
Our library staff and District Board are extremely excited about the potential for a new library – and are hoping our local community shares that enthusiasm.
After a thoughtful and deliberate planning and design stage by the District Board and Building Committee, the library is currently budgeted at $4.1 million. This building would host two community-accessible meeting rooms, six study spaces and ample room and seating areas. With the new location next to the Millstadt Primary Center, it will also be able to help Millstadt’s wonderful local schools and students reach their educational goals.
